process
If the engine warning light stays on, the engine runs roughly or the car will not start at all, an expensive shock often awaits at the authorised workshop: replacing the engine control unit quickly costs over a thousand euros. It does not have to be that way! Revonik GmbH repairs your defective engine control unit (ECU/PCM) directly at component level. Considerably cheaper than a new part, very fast and with a 24-month warranty. With the original unit, vehicle-specific data is retained in many cases. Coding, basic settings or further work on the vehicle may nevertheless be required, depending on the vehicle and the repair. For private and commercial customers.
Your benefits with
Engine control unit repair
Starting problems, limp-home mode or an illuminated engine warning light have various causes. Revonik checks whether your engine control unit listed in the product database is a possible source of the fault and whether a repair, data transfer or replacement solution makes sense.
Narrowing down the cause properly
Before an engine control unit is sent in, the fault code, the power supply and the vehicle diagnosis are decisive. This avoids replacing parts on suspicion.
Preserving original data where possible
If the original engine control unit can be repaired, vehicle information and coding are retained in many cases.
Component-level repair
We test the unit for relevant internal faults, memory problems, conductor track and component faults.
Repair instead of a new part
A repair can be cheaper than a new control unit plus programming. The technical inspection determines whether this route makes sense.
Data transfer after testing
If a data transfer is possible for a replacement unit listed in the database, we agree the scope and the price with you transparently after the technical inspection.
Plannable handling
Testing starts from €69.00 incl. VAT. Standard repairs are generally carried out within 2–4 working days from receipt of the unit.
24-month warranty
A 24-month warranty applies to the repair service carried out, in accordance with the approved terms.
Full transparency –
no hidden costs:
What does the initial diagnosis include?
We put your engine control unit through its paces on state-of-the-art test benches. The diagnostic fee will be charged in full in the event of a subsequent repair.
Repair
What is hardware repair?
Includes the professional repair of electronic defects (such as cold solder joints or burnt-out processors) on the circuit board.
Data transfer
What is data transfer (cloning)?
If a data transfer is possible for a replacement unit listed in the database, we transfer the vehicle-specific data. We agree the scope and the price with you after the technical inspection. Coding, basic settings or further work on the vehicle may nevertheless be required, depending on the vehicle and the repair.
Replacement device
What happens if it is irreparable?
If the control unit is irreparable, e.g. due to severe water damage, we can offer you a replacement unit that has been completely overhauled by us.
Is your engine indicator light permanently illuminated?
Do not ignore these warning signals. A defective engine control unit not only leads to starting problems, but can also cause expensive consequential damage to the engine (e.g. catalytic converter, ignition coils). In addition, your car will immediately lose its MOT licence. Typical faults that we rectify on a daily basis are in particular...
- No communication to the engine control unit possible
- Engine runs unevenly or switches off while driving
- Vehicle does not start sporadically (immobiliser active)
- Permanent misfiring on individual cylinders
- Engine does not accelerate (emergency running programme)
- Failure of sensors (reference voltage missing)
- Errors only occur with heat (thermal influence)
- Typical error codes: P1640 (engine control unit defective)
- Typical error codes: P0641 / P0651 (5V reference voltage)
- Typical error codes: P0658 (sensor reference voltage)
- Typical fault codes: P0215 (main relay positive/ground fault)
- Typical fault codes: P068A / P0685 (main relay)
- 30BA / 30BB / injectors 1,2,3 or injectors 4,5,6, internal error
- Sporadically no communication with the engine control unit
What happens if you ignore the defect?
Risk of major engine damage
A defective engine control unit often controls injection and ignition incorrectly. This leads to unburnt fuel in the exhaust tract, which can destroy the expensive catalytic converter or even the entire engine.
High repair costs in the authorised workshop
What can be repaired at component level today often leads to an expensive complete failure tomorrow. The longer you wait, the greater the damage - and therefore the costs.
Loss of TÜV approval
With an illuminated engine control light (ECL) and emission-related faults, your car will not pass the next general inspection (MOT). This will result in additional costs and a driving ban.
Loss of vehicle value
A car with a defective engine control unit is practically unsaleable or must be sold at an extreme discount.

you do not have your unit repaired:
The consequences if you do not have your device repaired:
Do not ignore the defect. A failure of the engine control unit leads to massive engine problems, the immediate loss of the MOT licence and a considerable loss in value of your vehicle. What can be repaired cheaply at component level today will become an expensive complete failure tomorrow. Avoid unnecessary risks - start your repair order now.

Frequently asked questions
On this page you will find answers to frequently asked questions
about control unit repair.
Which symptoms can point to the engine control unit?
A vehicle may start poorly, cut out, run roughly, lose power or switch to limp-home mode. However, these symptoms can also originate from sensors, actuators, wiring or the power supply. A vehicle diagnosis before removal is therefore required.
Which documents should I enclose?
Please send the vehicle data, part number, engine version, the complete fault memory, the symptoms and any tests already carried out. A photo of the type plate speeds up identification.
Is the immobiliser retained after a repair?
If the original control unit is repaired, the existing vehicle-specific data can often be retained. A binding statement is only possible after examining the unit, the fault pattern and the vehicle configuration.
What does the repair of an engine control unit cost?
The cost depends on the type of unit, the fault pattern and the material required. After the inspection from €69.00 incl. VAT we inform you of the actual effort before the repair.
